I didn't know about the Days of Play did you?

It's FREE play in the parks, they have crafts, games, sports and play every weekday June 23-August 15 and is put on by Bend Parks and Rec.

My kids had a blast today at Al Moody making sun visors, bird feeders, beaded key chains and then playing on the obstacle course they had set up. I think the favorite activity for my 6 year old was playing on these stilts. I guess I know what my next DIY craft will be!

If not, there are parks all over Bend that give children free, nutritious lunches Monday-Friday. If you would like to purchase one for yourself then it is $3.00. A couple things to note: You cannot share with your children, and the kids cannot take them from the park. They have to sit and eat it right there. Summer is Here!

Juniper Pool Bend Oregon

Summer is here and I plan on sharing all the fun things that we are doing!

We have been hitting the pool pretty much daily the past week, and this week they've been opening the outdoor pool for a couple hours in the morning. It's pretty much been heaven, no crowds, perfect weather and lots of laughs and prunish hands.

In other news, the library summer reading program has officially started! My kids love doing this! This year the theme is FIZZ BOOM READ! It has a science theme and they want you to read 24/7! That means 24 minutes a day (at least) every day. For every 7 days you get a coupon to enter in for big prizes, and after the first 7 you get a free book, pizza and ice cream! Head into your favorite library branch and pick up a reading log today!

Do you know of anything going on here in Bend that we should know about?

Spork, Bend Oregon

Spork, Bend OregonI have been dying to try out Spork ever since it opened up on the West side.

It used to be a food truck, and I missed out on it while it was mobile.

Spork has global inspired dishes with ingredients that are sourced locally. They use seasonal vegetables and humanely raised meats. Lots of things on their menu are gluten free, and marked clearly which I appreciate.

My friend from out of town came in and wanted to go someplace "cool" and "Bend" and I thought this really hit the mark.

I ordered the Spicy Fried Chicken with Jasmine rice and Kimchi ($10) shown in the front of the picture above.

She ordered the pork taco ($3) and the Hoisin Glazed Pork Belly ($6), both in the back.

We both LOVED our meat choices, and the taco was super yummy. It came with enough meat and toppings and two tortillas so we were both able to have our own little taco. The pork was really tender and sweet, while the fried chicken had a crispy, saucy glaze that just had the right amount of spicy kick. Neither one of us were a huge fan of the kimchi, as it was a bit spicy and just not really our taste. But if you like kimchi, then I'm sure you will like it as everything else was delicious.

I want to try everything else on the menu! So much of it looks amazing, and most are offered as little plates, so you could totally get a bunch of stuff and share. The prices are fair, the portions aren't huge but are perfect for a nice lunch. The small plates range from 2-$6 and the entrees are between 3-$10.

The atmosphere was fun and hip and totally "Bend."

So, if you are looking for huge portions and "normal" food don't go to Spork. If you are looking for something fun and new that will impress even the most hipster of your friends you should go to Spork.

Open from 11am-10pm every day (later on the weekends)

Thai On the Fly, Bend OR

Thai on the Fly Bend Oregon

Um, so yeah, amazing!

That above is the pad Thai from Thai on the Fly, otherwise known as A Taste of Thailand, and it is oh so good! The portion sizes there are huge and make it seriously the BEST take out in town...maybe in any town! You might miss it if you blink. It is seriously in an alley by an XPress Lube. Crazy that such excellent food comes from such a strange little place. It's like finding the leprechaun at the end of a rainbow. Or maybe a better analogy would be the best crack dealer in a mysterious dark alley...except I don't do crack, I do Thai food, and the alley isn't really dark or mysterious, just a strange, random alley.

The pad Thai is a favorite, I mean look at all that chicken and veg! I have also loved the Tom-Kah-Gai and the Pineapple Chicken Red Curry is so sweet and delicious I dream about it at night. The pumpkin curry is divine and next time I'm getting the Satay. I've heard great things about the Satay.

Not quite sure what to get? No worries, sweet Kaew Sumner (the owner of this magical place) hands you little bowls of samplings through the window while you decide. What, what?!? Seriously, like I said...Amazing. A real treasure on the East side, which is convenient, since I currently reside on the East side.

The menu has some stand by's everyday and then different things everyday. Be sure to grab a menu from her when you go through so that your mouth can water until the next meal. And the prices? $8 each meal-grab two and have a fab date night picnic for less than $20.

I may or may not go twice in one day sometimes....

I mean a person has to eat lunch and dinner right?

I give it ten out of ten stars, and if you haven't tried it yet, please go there immediately. If you need a fix in the middle of the night, I would say come over and have some of my leftovers...but there are never any leftovers.

Thai on the Fly

Greenwood Ave. at 7th St.
Next to the Xpress Lube, don't blink, and you need to go around and go through the alley.

Zydeco, Bend Oregon

Zydeco Bend Oregon

My girlfriends came into town this last weekend and we had almost a whole day to play in Bend before we headed to Portland to visit with another friend. They got here at lunchtime and asked where we should go for a yummy girls lunch. Zydeco is one of my absolute favorite lunch places. I always have them make me a pulled pork salad, and they are more than accommodating. YUM!

The service is always great, and the little touches just make this the perfect place for you to hang out with your girlfriends. It's quiet so you can talk and the food is absolutely incredible. It's also great for date night, but I like their lunch menu's prices a little better, and I love my salad. The only downside? They are only open for lunch Mon-Fri 11:30-2:00, so every time I'm in downtown on the weekend, I can't eat there! They are open for dinner 5-close, seven days a week though.

My husband and I went to Zydeco for our anniversary dinner last year, and it was super delicious, but it is one of those special occasion restaurants, or at least for a nice night out. It's romantic and cozy, not extremely spendy, but enough so to make it not an every week kind of spot.

If you have a dog at home be sure to ask for some dog treats before you leave! They will give you a little "doggy bag" of their homemade, gluten free, all natural dog treats for free. I know my little guy at home always appreciates it when I eat at Zydeco. :)

Other places we hit while the girls were in town? Ida's Cupcake Cafe of course, and Hola! We went to the downtown location of Hola! because we were downtown enjoying the art scene. We hung out at Powell's and bought some goodies and walked around laughing like teenagers. I just love this town we live in!
